Geoffrey Mark works hard to discover what people want and how they behave, and then he works to deliver the most elegant experiences he can for them. All while managing our team of interface designers and developers. One part psychologist/social scientist, one part methodical engineer, one part artist, and one part MBA wanna-be, the man can think. Also he speaks many languages fluently, making cross-disciplinary interface design and management his specialty. For instance, he speaks the fluid and ever-changing business/IT patois. He can speak plain English while talking to and learning from users (people who will use the technology). He can translate between flash animators, markup language experts, data analysts, and marketing managers. He is agnostic about development platforms, is open to change, respectful of installed base, nimble. We found Geoff via Chicago, via a number of big brands and prestigious agencies, and asked him to join us. And he said yes! We can't get over it. Geoff is nimble, Geoff is quick. And he's otherwise occupied with Michael and Trish. He likes donuts.

Just returned from the 2008 IIT Institute of Design Design Research Conference. It was enlightening to review multiple approaches to design research, planning and practice. As I ruminate about their application to our strategic work at People Design, I’ll prepare a future post, but for now, here’s an essential reading/resource list cited by speaker: Liz Sanders [...]
The Real Secret Behind Creative Genius
We’ve been reading a lot lately… This from the Times. This from Kevin Kelly. A recent article in the NY Times, “Eureka! It Really Takes Years of Hard Work,” demystifies some recent discussions about innovation in a way that has us smiling around here. In short, reports Times writer Janet Rae-Dupree, innovation is less about the A-ha! (or [...]
