Stepbrands

A few days every week, I spend my time with a fantastic young person who constantly helps me reframe the way I view the world. Whether we’re practicing superhero powers or spelling words, I am constantly amazed by how wholly we have accepted each other into our lives.
We are, in a way, stepparents to the brands we help build at Peopledesign. Our clients introduce us to their children – their brands – and we agree to be committed to their success, to nurture them, and to help them realize their full potential. It is a vulnerable position for all parties involved, requiring trust and a willingness to let go.
A sense of humor doesn’t hurt either.
As stepparents to these brands, we are deliberate about the way we communicate, so new ideas are clear and consistent. We are aware and respectful of the history that existed before we came along. We are not push-overs, but we are always open to the rewards of new discovery.
Our clients trust us enough to welcome us into their families, to allow us to help foster and shape their brands. And we recognize that as the huge responsibility it is. We do not take it lightly, but we do take it graciously.
After all, it’s pretty rewarding to see your influence, whether in print, online, or in crayon.
