Our leaders are leaders outside of our firm also. We are participants, supporters, board members, and founders of many organizations, including AIGA, APDF, DMI, and others.

AIGA, the professional association for design, is the oldest and largest organization of its kind. In 2009, we asked our local peers to help start a West Michigan chapter, to help build a regional design community and extend the regional identity within AIGA. Kevin served as the organization’s first president until 2011. In that short time, AIGA West Michigan grew to be a mid-sized chapter with more than 300 members and robust local programming.

APDF, the Association of Professional Design Firms, is an alliance of 100 top independent product, communications, and interaction design firms in North America. We have been members for a few years. In 2009, Kevin was asked to join the national Board and in 2010, he was promoted to Vice President. Since mid-2011, Kevin has been serving as the organization’s president, leading initiatives to define the organization’s charter for its next 25 years.

In addition, Kevin serves as an advisor to various organizations including The Keller Futures Center, Design West Michigan, NewNorth Center, and Grand Rapids Magazine. Yang has served on the boards of the St. Cecilia Music Center and the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts (UICA), and is on the 2012 AIGA National Board Nominating Committee.
